Hands-on Learning for Homeschoolers

First Thursday of each month November-April
10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
For ages 4 to 6 and ages 7 to 10

Join us at this monthly series for homeschooled students to learn about the natural world through hands-on activities and investigations. We will wrap up each program with a visit with one of our live animal ambassadors.

Advance registration is required. If a session is full, we will open a second timeslot from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. Register for one program or attend the whole series. Activities take place both indoors and outdoors. Dress to be outdoors with insulated boots, hats, gloves, jackets, and warm layers when appropriate.

Cost per session: $12/member child; $15/non-member child

An adult must participate with children at no additional cost. Each additional adult pays child fee.

Our homeschool programs are aligned to Next Generation Science Standards and NH College and Career Ready Science Standards. Homeschool groups qualify for school rates and custom programs.

This is by far one the best not so hidden gems of Central New Hampshire! While it functions similarly to a zoo the goal of the facility is to rehabilitate and care for local animals found in the white mountains fo NH. The animals who stay are there for medical or other legitimate reasons to keep them from living in the wild and are given wonderful care. The staff that works there is knowledgable and kind, eager to answer any questions about the animals you may have. The path to see all the animals is fun and equivalent to many easy day hikes with spots to picnic, and a wonderful play/learning area for the young and young at heart. It is a place my family loves to visit time and time again, never getting board of the wonderful animals, new things to learn, and great day that always ensues.

We spent the day at Squam Center with our 9 month old baby and it was fantastic. There is so much to do even for us adults. We learned so much in a fun and interactive way. Highly recommend! The staff are friendly and so knowledgeable. We had a great day!

Since discovering this place a few years ago I have been in love. I make it a mission to visit at least once a year. Last year I even had my daughters birthday here! Most recent visit was Saturday when me and my husband were celebrating our wedding anniversary. I highly recommend this place. Animals are amazing and well taken care of. The path ways are also well tended to.

Loved my visit here. Animals are well cared for, great old school exhibits. So many extra areas and playgrounds for kids. Nice shady walk and lots of extras to do in the area.

I have grown up going to the science center and never realized how lucky I have been to experience it until I had the opportunity to take my son here. As a parent it's such an incredible experience to see young children explore and become familiar with the natural world. It's fun, it's exciting for kids and adults (who doesn't want to be one glass pane away from amazing mountain lions!?), it's educational and it takes a solid two hours of a two and a half year old running at full speed to get through the whole path and playgrounds. Thank you Squam Lake for the perfect toddler naps.
